Financial Plan & Resources:
The Center will rely on accumulated individual resources of all of its members. These resources include the BSL3 facility at the South Texas Centers for Biology in Medicine, the Advanced Nucleic Acids Core facility, directed by Dr. Wickes and the Fungus Testing Laboratory ( http://pathology.uthscsa.edu/labs/funteslab.htm), directed by Dr. Rinaldi, and resources and expertise from individual laboratories including those of Drs. Patterson, Wickes, Rinaldi, Lopez-Ribot, Yeh, Quitugua and Cox. Training grants and programs accessible to the Center include the Graduate programs in the Departments of Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology and in the School of Dentistry, the Infectious Disease Fellowship program and Clinical Investigation Program in the Department of Medicine. Financial support for the administrative functions of SACCM will be drawn from individual programmatic funds, depending on responsibilities performed in that position. Individual finances will remain with each investigator and department or school as has previously been established. |
Strategic Plan:
The strategic plan and long-term goals are to establish the UTHSCSA and SACMM as the pre-eminent Center for Medical Mycology world-wide. This aim will be accomplished by increasing opportunities for research and training in all areas of Medical Mycology, including clinical studies, basic science research and laboratory testing, and the recruitment of additional faculty with research interests in this field. We envision SACMM as providing the framework for attracting increased research funding and interest from investigators from diverse backgrounds interested in training and research in Medical Mycology. We feel these efforts will make the UTHSCSA synonymous with excellence in mycology and will provide significant advances in this important field. |
